Links: General Composition Organizations

American Music Center (AMC): the AMC motto is "building a national community for new American music." They have a searchable database that allows you to search for music by American composers. They also administer various grants and awards and also hold workshops. I think this is one of the most helpful organizations for American composers.

American Composers Forum (ACF): ACF has grants, commissioning and performance opportunities and even their own record label, Innova. they are especially innovative in how they connect composers to audiences. I highly recommend that all composers become members of ACF.

ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers): I am a proud member of ASCAP. They are always very helpful to their composer members, and particularly to emerging composers.

BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.): this is the other main licensing organization in the US. Although I am a member of ASCAP, BMI is equally wonderful and helpful to composers.

Counterstream Radio: a 24-hour online station broadcasting music by a broad range of United States composers.

National Association of Composers, USA (NACUSA): the second oldest composers' organization in the United States. Their website includes a searchable member catalog, links to audio samples, information on CD's containing member's works, and more.

New Music Box: the award-winning webzine put out by the American Music Center is one of the best publications ever written that is exclusively devoted to composers. This website contains excellent articles, interviews, audio files of new music, etc. I highly recommend visiting this website.

Society for New Music: a wonderful, award-winning organization that promotes new music in central New York State. It is run by Neva Pilgrim, Syracuse's most tireless supporter of new music. I am proud to have won their Brian Israel Prize.

Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI): this organization is very helpful to both emerging and established composers. They sponsor national, student, and regional conferences for composers in the United States.
