PROGRAM NOTE

Excerptia Overture was written for John Beck and the Eastman Marimba Ensemble. It contains popular xylophone excerpts taken exclusively from music by composers who lived in the U.S. and Russia. The piece begins with a famous xylophone excerpt from Porgy & Bess by George Gershwin and ends with an excerpt from The Firebird Suite by Igor Stravinsky.
